Learning how to get to Tamraght is simple once you know that almost every route goes through Agadir. Tamraght is a small coastal village about 15 km north of the city, next to Aourir and a short ride from Taghazout. There is no airport or train station in the village itself.
From Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA)
This is how most surfers arrive. The airport is inland, and the drive to Tamraght takes around 40 to 50 minutes. You have three realistic choices:
- Pre-booked transfer: Your driver waits at arrivals. It costs a bit more but removes all stress, especially after a late flight. Many surf houses, including The Cove Surf House, can arrange this.
- Airport taxi: Taxis wait outside. Agree the price before you get in. Never rely on the meter for a long trip like this.
- Bus plus taxi: Cheaper but slower. You travel into Agadir first, then continue north. Fine if you have time, not great with a board bag.
From Agadir city to Tamraght
From the centre or the bus station, you can take a grand taxi (shared, goes along the coast road toward Taghazout) or a private taxi. Local city buses also run along the same road. Line 32 is the one surfers usually mention, but routes and timetables change, so confirm with your host before relying on it.
Tell the driver “Tamraght” or “Aourir”, and then give your hostel’s name or pin. A shared taxi is cheap but waits until full.
From Marrakech to Tamraght
The road trip is long, around 250 km and usually 3.5 to 4.5 hours. The simplest option is a long-distance bus (CTM or Supratours) from Marrakech to Agadir, then a taxi to Tamraght. You can also book a private driver, which makes sense for a group because it can be split between several people. If you fly into Marrakech because it was cheaper, build in this extra half-day.
By rental car
A car gives you freedom to chase swell and take day trips, such as Imsouane or Paradise Valley. Roads on the coast are good. Things to know:
- Police checkpoints are common. Be polite, keep your documents handy.
- Avoid driving in the dark outside towns. Animals and unmarked speed bumps are the issue.
- Parking in Tamraght is informal and generally easy.
- Check that your rental allows a surfboard on the roof or inside.
Money and safety tips
- Withdraw dirhams (MAD) at the airport ATM or in Agadir. Small villages have few machines and cash is king.
- Carry small notes. Drivers often “have no change” for large ones.
- Screenshot your accommodation address and send your host your flight number.
- Agree on the fare first, in dirhams, with a confirmed total.
